Superchargers or turbo chargers can be 'turned on' by a switch in many different ways.if a clutch is used, when ever the supercharger is turned off it simply free wheels by the vacuum generated by the engine.they also have a roots based eaton supercharger driven by 3 electric motors.other superchargers can utilize a by pass that closes with the flip of a switch.its common in the turbo mopar world.stock waste gate springs open very early. By flipping a switch that closes a solenoid, all boost reference signal is blocked off and the waste gate stays shut until u manually disengage or a pressure switch is set to open it. Hey bigbearduff.i appoligize for fact i didnt get pics of the fan clutch set ups.plus the supercharger on my truck is gear driven along with the air compressor.im gonna try to explain how it 'could' work.a a/c clutch is the best way to visualize. The compressor pump does not spin until u flip a switch that engages the clutch. The rest of the time the pulley free wheels.but that would not explain how to achieve the lonewolf no belt turning effect.but if that clutch was mounted to the crankshaft the only time the belt would spin was when it was engaged by a switch.thats all fine and dandy but sounds like too much work for most.if u wanted to flip a switch then it would be the best way. But if u just wanted a roots supercharger, look at the eaton m series oem superchargers.they use a bypass butterfly that is vacuum actuated.

Under high vacuum cruise conditions the by pass allows air to keep recirculating not allowing pressure to build up.as soon as throttle is opened vacuum diminishes and the bypass closes forcing all air to manifold.this results in a supercharger that maintains high efficiency and mileage when not on boost and still have good power output. It takes less than 1/3 of 1hp to turn the supercharger in cruise mode.

I am going to have to get pics of it to show they actually do exist.according to a few things i have researched the plymouth trailduster was supposedly made for all of the same years that the RC was, but in a very limited number (around 2000 or so a year) this would account for the scarcity, but still makes you wonder why only a handful have ever been seen.i keep expecting some person that is hoarding them to show up at barret-jacksons one year with a whole truckload of mint condition post-80 TD's and clean house.in the meantime look at this:eric.
